Two more days until I get my new iPhone, which means a new and better camera, which means better fitting room pictures! So excited!
Alary Shirtdress by Girls from Savoy -$128
Size 6
This dress is very similar to last year's Southward Stop Shirtdress. It's got the same corduroy material, the same neutral color scheme, and a similar animal print (this one has moths and birds instead of birds and deer). I got the Southward Stop Shirtdress in a size 4, which fit me last year after I lost some weight for my wedding, but now I'm having some trouble wearing it comfortably :/ I decided to go up to a size 6 with this dress and it was a snug, but comfortable fit. I definitely didn't have any extra room to spare. I'll be passing on this one since I already own the Southward Stop Shirtdress. Plus, I really don't think the colors are very flattering against my skin tone.
Ihrin Shirtdress by Lili's Closet-$148
Size 4
I really wanted to like this dress and I did from the waist down, but the fit issues I had from the waist up ended up being deal breakers for me. The sleeves weren't cutting off my circulation, but they were a little too snug for my liking and I felt like they kept bunching up. I had to keep pulling them down to make the fit a little more comfortable. I also felt like the buttons up top were placed at odd points. If I unbuttoned three buttons, I was showing too much cleavage and if I only unbuttoned two, I felt like the dress was choking me. I did really like the pleats, the color, and the fact that the dress is machine washable. Pass for me, but if it fits you, I say get it when it goes on sale.
Glinting Persica Sweater Dress by Knitted and Knotted-$188
Size Small
There's really only one thing you need to know about this next dress. It itches! I wanted to take it off the second I got it on over my head. I do have pretty sensitive skin though, so if you don't, you may not even notice it. If you do, you'll probably want to run far away from this dress. Other than that, I really liked everything else about the dress. It has peach colored blossoms all over it and the rest of the dress is a mixture of brown, tan, and cream. It has thick straps, so you can wear a normal bra with it and the sweater material isn't too snug, so you won't see every lump and bump. My normal size small fit perfectly all around. The dress hits right above the knees, so it's the perfect length for the office. It's pullover style and is hand washable, which is nice. I highly recommend this one if you can get past the itch factor.
Veiled Alder Dress by Yoana Baraschi-$298
Size 4
I felt like a human doily in this last dress. That's never a good thing. I honestly didn't love anything about this dress IRL, which was sad for me because I loved it when I first saw it pop up online. As you can see, the light grey/cream/whatever color that is really washes me out. I'm sorry, but I'm not paying $298 to look like a washed out human doily. The length was also an issue for me. The body of the dress was a good 2+ inches above my knees, which is shorter than I can wear to work and then the lining was another 1-2 inches shorter than that. That's a problem when the body of the dress is see-through. I also had trouble with the zipper getting stuck. I didn't try the zippers on any of the other dresses though, so I may have just gotten a bad one. Big pass for me.
Have you tried on any of these dresses? How did they work for you?

It's funny cause I first just looked at the pictures and loved the "doily" one the best, until I went through and read what you wrote. I guess now looking at it again, it kinda does look like a human doily! Too funny. You look adorable in the one that itches. Too bad it itches. This is so much fun that you do this. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the cut of the Southward Stop shirtdress vs the first dress you tried. I also really like the doily dress (you've coined a new name for it!) but not the pricetag. Here's hoping it makes it to a third cut!
ReplyDeleteI loved the glinting persica dress too. Oddly it did not bother me though which was surprising since I have sensitive skin as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the first dress isn't a flattering color for you. I love the green dress though. Ugh, its beautiful and I want it. If only there was an Anthropologie near me (the nearest one is in the next state, an hour away).
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame the doily dress doesn't come in a different colour, as the fit of it looks fab on you! Like AnthroMel, I usually get uber-twitchy about itchy things but was okay with this dress. Maybe it's worth trying on another one, just in case? It looks great on and it'll go with tonnes...
ReplyDeleteI don't think you look like a human doily, but I did literally LOL at that. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually love the doily dress too - but wish it was a little shorter or could be a skirt or something - you look gorgeous in all of them though, honestly!
